Binh Thuan and Binh Dinh Provinces, home to popular beach towns, have applied social distancing measures to limit coronavirus spread.
Binh Thuan's coastal town Phan Thiet with over 228,000 people entered its 14-day social distancing campaign from Monday under government Directive 16, which requires people to stay at home and only go out for basic necessities such as buying food or medicines or to work at factories or businesses that are allowed to open.
The move came as Phan Thiet, home to Mui Ne resort hotspot, has detected a series of new infections with unidentified transmission sources, Voice of Vietnam reported.
Binh Thuan has so far recorded 667 infections during the ongoing wave that struck the country since late April.
Binh Dinh, home to beach town Quy Nhon, also applied social distancing order for two weeks from Sunday under Directive 15, which bans social events, gatherings of 20 people or more and of 10 outside of workplaces, schools and hospitals, Saigon Giai Phong newspaper reported.
Binh Dinh has recorded 195 cases in the new wave.
Many popular tourism hotspots such as Nha Trang, Da Nang and Hoi An have been put under lockdown after detecting Covid clusters.
Over three months into its fourth wave, the most challenging that Vietnam has encountered, the country has recorded 153,621 cases in 62 of its 63 cities and provinces.
