Sapa town is located at the head of a deep valley filled with spectacular rice terraces that have been farmed for centuries. It doesn't get much more amazing than this when it comes to sceneries. The eye is drawn down to the valley level by tempting ribbons of road, white-water rivers rushing through rice fields, and greenery mountains stretching as far as the eye can see. Mount Fansipan, the region's tallest peak, caps the rugged ridge line well above town. The suggested activities below will help you enjoy Sapa at best.
Hike through the hills
Sapa has some of the best trekking in Vietnam, and some towns, including Cat Cat and Ta Phin, may be visited without a guide. Walk through rice terraces, soak in waterfalls, and learn about ethnic culture on an overnight trek.

Conquer Mount Fansipan's summit
In just 15 minutes, a 6-kilometer cable car ride will transport you 3,143 meters to the summit of Mount Fansipan. Before climbing the final few stairs to the pinnacle, take a stroll through the pagoda complex. The panoramic views from the 'Roof of Indochina' are unrivaled. Read more
Spend the night in a mountain lodge
Stay in modest comfort at a hillside resort outside of Sapa's tourist district. Excellent lodges and homestays may be found in Sapa. You'll be rubbing elbows with farmers while they're on their everyday routines among the rice terraces.
Pay a visit to an ethnic minority market
Every Sunday, the Bac Ha market comes alive with hundreds of sellers dressed in traditional clothing from the Dzao, Tay, Xa Fang, Han, and Thai tribes. Expect a riot of color and a frenzy of bargaining. Read more
Get athletic
Mountain riding is a terrific way to get out and see Sapa's less-traveled areas. Around 4000 people compete in the annual Vietnam Mountain Marathon, which covers 10 to 100 kilometers of buffalo-beaten tracks.
