Con Dao is an archipelago off the coast of Southeast Vietnam and is a district directly under Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. Con Son is the largest island in the archipelago.
Best time to visit:
The greatest time to visit the Con Dao Islands is during the dry season (November to February), however between June and September is the best time to watch turtles nesting on Hon Bay Canh Island. The months of February to July are perfect for diving expeditions, with visibility averaging 20 to 30 meters in the waters of Con Dao.
How to get there:
Within an hour's flight from Ho Chi Minh City, the Con Dao Islands, particularly Con Son, are reachable. VASCO, a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines, is the only airline that flies to the island on a regular basis. Con Dao Aiport is 15 kilometers south of Con Son Town, and most luxury resorts and hotels provide roundtrip shuttle service to their clients.
Con Dao's attractions:
Con Son has been famous for its prison built by the French colonial government. Con Son Town is home to the majority of the abandoned jails, where you may tour the prison cells and the iconic tiger cages. Many locals come to Con Son to pay their respects to rebels like Vo Thi Sau, the first woman murdered by the French on the island.
Aside from this desolate area of Con Son, the island boasts a number of unspoiled beaches where you may spend the day sunbathing, swimming, and eating fresh seafood. Bai An Hai Beach, which connects Ben Dam Harbour to various beachside resorts and fishing villages, is the closest to town. If you prefer privacy, rent a motorcycle and ride south to Mui Ca Map (Shark Cape) and Nhat Beach to enjoy excellent white sands and spectacular ocean views.
Hon Bay Canh Island is known for its turtle breeding grounds, so if you go between June and September, you might get to see turtles depositing their eggs.
