Half day Hoi An boat trip to Kim Bong carpentry, Thanh Ha pottery village and lantern making

Hoi An is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Its buildings and its street plan reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that have combined to produce this unique heritage site.

The pottery found at the Thanh Ha Pottery Village is especially unique. It’s all manually crafted from terracotta clay taken from the nearby riverbeds and shipped worldwide. The village is equipped with all kinds of activities for visitors including a museum with ever-changing exhibits and history, pottery-making workshops, a temple, and hands-on pottery-making experiences.

Kim Bong carpentry village is also famous by carpenters going nationwide to build beam houses, old three-space houses retained until now.

Full itinerary

Day tour Half day Kim Bong carpentry village, Thanh Ha pottery village and lantern making village

We will take a 30-minute boat ride to the Kim Bong Carpentry Village. This is a traditional craft village in Hoi An, formed in the 15th century by the Northerners: Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh. Visit and learn about the shipbuilding area, where wooden fishing vessels are built using traditional techniques. You will also have a chance to stop at the carpentry workshop, where carpenters create handcrafted furniture and sculptures.

Continue taking another boat ride to Thanh Ha Pottery Village, where you will observe how the villagers make pottery products such as vases, pots, and kettles. Thanh Ha Pottery Village has over 500 years of history, from the establishing period up to now. We then visit the Thanh Ha Terra Cotta Park Museum. Many works of human architecture and sculpture, such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa (Italy), Taj Mahal (India), Sydney Opera House (Australia), White House (USA), Pyramid of Giza (Egypt), Notre Dame (France), and others, are vividly recreated entirely of clay by the village artisans.

The tour concludes with a visit to a local lantern craftsman's home to learn about the traditional art of lantern making.
