Trang An Landscape Complex

Trang An Landscape Complex, located south of Hanoi, is known as Vietnam's "Ha Long Bay on Land." The complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for both nature and culture, with a spectacular landscape of caverns and tunnels among limestone karsts, rice paddies, villages, and historic sites.

The Trang An Landscape Complex is a spectacular landscape of limestone karst peaks permeated with valleys, many of which are partially submerged and surrounded by steep, almost vertical cliffs. Exploration of caves at various altitudes has revealed archaeological traces of human activity dating back more than 30,000 years. They show how seasonal hunter-gatherers occupied these mountains and how they adapted to major climatic and environmental changes, particularly the repeated inundation of the landscape by the sea after the last ice age. The story of human occupation continues into the historical era through the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. Hoa Lu, Vietnam's ancient capital, was strategically established here between the 10th and 11th centuries AD. There are also temples, pagodas, paddy fields, and small villages on the property.

Trang An grottoes, a collection of 31 valleys and 50 cross-water caves, is home to 600 species of flora and over 200 species of fauna, many of which are listed in Vietnam's Red Book.

Unlike a traditional mountain range, where the slopes connect in a long undulating stretch, most of these peaks stand alone, adding to their dramatic appearance.

The stretches of flat land that surround them appear to be valleys, but they are actually what the area would look like if there were no mountains. Many of them are filled with fields, and the fertile ground is ideal for agriculture and settlements.

However, there are sections that are submerged under water, and the tourism industry claims that this is the best way to explore the Trang An area. While it is possible to cycle, drive, or even walk around the mountains, most people prefer to take a Trang An boat tour to see some of the most beautiful parts of the region. The journey around the waterways will take approximately two hours. A day trip to Trang An from Hanoi is simple.
